The company

Phase Heritage is the specialist heritage department of Phase Site Investigations Ltd.  We are a market leader in high resolution cart-based magnetic surveys for the archaeological sector and we want to add to our geophysics team to help us meet the demand for our high quality services.  Our surveys are based on collecting high quality data and producing informed, clear interpretations.  Phase Heritage is committed to training and continual mentoring of our staff.

We work in a variety of sectors, from archaeology to engineering geophysics and utility tracing, utilising a range of different geophysical techniques including ground penetrating radar (GPR), magnetics, electromagnetics (EM), microgravity and resistivity imaging.

The position

The role will primarily involve archaeological surveys across the UK but you may also be required to assist in the other types of survey work that we undertake so there will be variety in your workload.  The majority of our archaeological surveys involve cart-based multi-sensor systems but we also undertake surveys with hand-held gradiometers and occasionally utilise resistance, GPR and EM techniques.

The position will involve a significant amount of field work but there will also be an element of office-based work including assisting with processing data, producing data plots and some drawing work.

We are looking for individuals who are keen to learn and take on added responsibility as their experience grows.  Training will be given in all aspects of field work, processing and interpretation as required.  This is a permanent position with scope for career progression.

Travel time for surveys to and from our offices will form part of your normal working hours.

Expenses and accommodation are paid / provided when surveys require overnight stays away from the office.

Position requirements

The successful candidate will have  a minimum of six months experience in commercial geophysics.  A related specialist post-graduate qualification would be considered in lieu of experience of commercial geophysics.

The successful candidate must be motivated, enthusiastic, enjoy working outdoors, in often physically demanding conditions, and have the ability to work to tight deadlines.

A full UK Driving Licence is essential.
