UCL Institute of Archaeology
Archaeology South-East
Archaeologist

The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 5. The salary range will be £20,624 - £23,879 per annum, excluding London Allowance.

Operating out of offices in East Sussex, Essex and London Archaeology South-East (the Field Unit of the Institute of Archaeology, UCL) requires staff to work on excavations in southern England. The successful applicant will be required to record, sample and describe archaeological finds and features, both in the field and off site and assist in the preparation of project reports. The applicant may also be required to take responsibility for small projects, possibly involving the supervision of small numbers of staff.

Applicants should be competent at general excavation and recording techniques, with a detailed understanding of the principles of archaeological stratification. Ideally the applicant will have a degree in archaeology (or closely related topic). Membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) at Practitioner (PIFA) or Affiliate level is desirable. A working knowledge of at least some period(s) of British archaeology is essential as is proven experience of archaeological fieldwork. Ideally this builds on previous professional employment in UK contract archaeology.
