Thames Valley Archaeological Services are looking to recruit two project supervisors, one to be based at our Reading office, and one at TVAS South in Brighton. In addition, we seek site assistants for both offices.
The successful candidates for the site assistant roles have commercial experience and a proven track record on a range of sites, in addition to a good knowledge of archaeological techniques. Driving licence, CSCS card and CIfA membership are welcomed.
The supervisor role will primarily involve carrying out fieldwork projects to specification (evaluations, watching briefs and smaller excavations) and preparing reports. Other duties will include site visits, liaising with clients and contractors, and data collection.
A degree in archaeology (or related subject), a proven track record in writing reports, and a thorough knowledge of British archaeology are essential. They will be able to demonstrate practical skills to a high standard, including the range of techniques and methods used in commercial archaeology, including digging, sampling, survey and supervising fieldwork teams.
A keen attitude and enthusiastic, flexible approach and full driving licence are essential. A valid CSCS card, first aid training and membership of the CIfA are preferred. Experience in geophysical survey techniques would also be advantageous, though full training will be given.
