Archaeological Research Services Ltd are recruiting Archaeological Officers, Assistant Project Officers, Project Officers and Project Managers for work on a variety of project work in our offices and around the UK including amongst others a large and exciting infrastructure project in Suffolk which will involve numerous excavations.

You will be required to have good team-working ability, enthusiasm and drive to complete tasks and contribute to the operational success of the project. Previous archaeological fieldwork experience is required although we are also keen to hear from university students and recent graduates as well as experienced post-excavation project officers/managers. For the Archaeological Officer posts experience gained through voluntary work will also be acceptable and we have space for a limited number of trainees.

A valid CSCS cards is required. If you do not have a CSCS card then we may be able to assist you in gaining an equivalent health and safety certificate – please speak to our Senior Projects Manager for further information (Tel. 01629 814540).

Contracts will be field or office-based initially and offered on either a permanent or fixed-term basis depending on the applicant’s availability and the need for all of our permanent staff to be able to be flexible and work on projects where required, unless it is a specifically office-based role. Project Manager:  £24,500-£27,100

Job Summarry
Undertake staff and operational project management including overseeing work schedules to maximize staff productivity and efficiency, oversee projects and ensure they are delivered within budget, on time and to standard – particularly field projects and post- excavation analysis, reporting and publication.
Check reports and other project outcomes as part of quality assurance.
Organise project logistics, produce risk assessments, WSIs, Method Statements and provide support, guidance and encouragement to project staff. Work closely with the Contracts Manager, Operations Manager, Managing Director, Business Administrator and other Office Managers.
Liaise with clients, local authority archaeologists and other curatorial bodies, sub-contractors and specialists. 
Assist in driving forward the Company and championing its culture and cohesion.
Assist the Contracts Manager with key tenders, projects designs and costings and contribute to marketing the company and networking as appropriate.
Undertake general management and administrative duties and to undertake other duties that may arise as required.


Projects Officer: £22,000-£25,000
Job Summarry

Perform Project Officer role on a variety of projects including fieldwork, post-ex, reports, archives etc. as required and to undertake supervision and administrative duties and other duties that may arise as required. Driving. Illustration and creative work such as CAD, GIS.
Carry out a wide variety of project work including running and delivering field projects, WSIs, supervising of field staff and undertaking post-excavation work. Undertake discussions with wide range of clients and stakeholders.
Produce accurate, well written reports as appropriate.


Assistant Projects Officer:  £19,000 - 21,000
Job Summarry

To assist in a wide variety of project-related work and to undertake archaeological fieldwork, post-excavation, digital plans and drawings, reports, archives etc and to undertake administrative and other duties that may arise as required. Supervision of small
sites and junior staff, including organising work duties, monitoring the work undertaken by junior staff and ensuring work is undertaken correctly and to the right standard.
Drawing issues to the attention of the Project Officer or Manager and taking responsibility within any given project to ensure that work gets completed on time and to budget and the job runs smoothly.


Archaeological Officer:  £19,000

Job Summarry
To carry out a wide variety of project-related work and assist in undertaking and completing fieldwork and recording, and to undertake as required sample taking and processing, survey work and finds processing.
Undertake illustrations, archives etc. and to assist with administrative, clerical and general office duties that may arise as required.
 
Candidates are expected to have the following:

  • Degree level education in a relevant subject or demonstrable longstanding field archaeology experience
  • A current and valid CSCS card
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to drive company vehicles preferred
  • Good communication and team- working skills
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Awareness of health and safety good practice and commitment to safe working
  • CIfA membership will be an advantage
