Architectural Investigator
Ref: 8220

This is a rare opportunity to join the Investigation Team of Historic England. You will be joining an interdisciplinary team comprising investigators with architectural and archaeological expertise. You will undertake and deliver a variety of projects in order to enhance the understanding of the historic environment.

Historic England is the public body that looks after England’s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people to understand, value and care for them. We support the English Heritage Trust through a shared services agreement.

You will carry out and deliver projects to discover, investigate and assess the significance of poorly known or especially threatened aspects of England’s built environment. The post will be based in the York Office of Historic England, but you will be required to work in other areas of the country.

You will have a degree in architectural history, buildings archaeology or a related discipline, and a track record of research and publication. You will also have a thorough understanding of England’s built heritage and the wider historic environment, and a demonstrable commitment to continuous learning. Knowledge of analytical buildings survey and historical area assessments would be an advantage.  You will be a team player who values the contribution and expertise of others.

Historic England offers a wide benefits package including a competitive pension scheme, 28 days holiday, corporate discounts, free entry to English Heritage sites as well as flexibility in the working day to create a strong work-life balance.

Closing date: 6th August 2017
Interviews will be held on Wednesday 23 August 2017
