Headland Archaeology would like to appoint a senior manager to oversee its post-excavation team. The position will be based in one of our four regional offices but the appointee would have responsibility for managing the overall completion as well as the specialist areas of post-excavation including finds, graphics and environmental work across all of its offices and operations. It is anticipated that this will include several major infrastructure projects across the UK. 
We would require the appointee to:

  • Manage the whole of the post-excavation process through to publication across all of our regions and offices;
  • Manage the in-house specialist departments on a day-to-day basis including line management, project-finance, resourcing, coordination, quality control, reporting and development;
  • Maintain a close and positive working relationship with the contracting department including working closely with other managers regarding resources and delivery of products;
  • Provide costings at initial point of sales and subsequent stages of the post-excavation process when relevant;
  • Negotiate with external and internal parties in relation to post-excavation projects to ensure that the company delivers a quality product within the constraints of project budgets and timescales;
  • Champion and promote the post-excavation departments externally and within Headland;
  • Manage to completion current key post-excavation projects;
  • Work closely with other senior managers and the post-excavation team to deliver company business objectives.
 
The sort of person we would like to employ would need to have:
  • Prior experience of successfully managing significant post-excavation programmes and projects within a commercial archaeology framework;
  • A desire to learn and develop, underpinned by a good knowledge and experience of specialist work in British Archaeology;
  • The ability to manage finances, resources, projects and teams;
  • A strong publication track record and experience in the presentation of the results of archaeological works for publication;
  • An appetite to work closely with other branches of the company and help to develop Headland Archaeology as a national brand;
  • May have specialist or other skills which are complementary to those currently available within Headland Archaeology.
 
The company is passionate about archaeology and very focussed on training, so not only can you expect to receive training but our managers are encouraged to get involved with the development of junior staff. This role will have a particular emphasis on helping to develop staff improve in Post-excavation and report writing skills.
