The position:

Due to our continued growth we have vacancies for Geomatics Supervisors based in our Oxford office. Due to the nature of our work the role will be field and office based, supporting a variety of projects (including ‘away based’ sites).

The role will also involve conducting geomatics tasks independently as well as part of a team, including responsibility for spatial data capture and processing. You will apply metric survey techniques which could include earthwork, building and landscape survey and photogrammetry.

We are looking for people who can demonstrate significant experience in geomatics and support a range of projects. You will need to be a confident and energetic problem solver with strong communication and interpersonal skills, and have a commitment to engaging the wider community in aspects of our work. You will demonstrate good writing skills, which are also essential for this role.

Position requirements:

  • Significant experience of commercial UK survey and geomatics within a heritage environment.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of geomatics including techniques for survey, earthwork and / or building survey.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of project types, with an excellent understanding of UK commercial archaeology.
  • Providing guidance and assistance with performance monitoring and training where appropriate for Field Archaeologists and Graduate Trainees.
  • A full driving licence and the ability to drive OA company vehicles is essential, as is a current CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card.
  • Confidence in providing technical support remotely for survey and geomatics tasks on archaeological sites.
  • Competent writing and IT skills.
  • Competency with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Leica Geo-Office, QGIS and/or other CAD, GIS and database packages and TST as well as DGPS/GNSS equipment.

In addition to the above requirements it will be advantageous if candidates have a degree in archaeology, GIS, survey or related earth science discipline and can demonstrate knowledge of Leica GNSS and TST equipment as well as membership of CIfA.
