Field Archaeologists
£18,321.46 - £19,486.64

The Cambridge Archaeological Unit is recruiting Field Archaeologists for a range of archaeological excavations, evaluations and surveys throughout East Anglia.  Confirmed sites include prehistoric landscapes, major Iron Age and Roman settlements including the Northstowe New Town development.

The Role:
The CAU has several sites scheduled for Autumn – Winter 2017-2018 which include evaluations, large scale open area excavations and quarry sites. Staff will be appointed on 6 month fixed term contracts. Field Staff will assist in delivering fieldwork services to a professional standard and to strict deadlines.

Based on a review of skills and performance, the CAU will offer contract extensions to new staff who rise to the challenge of working in a busy research-led commercial unit.

Requirements:
Applicants must be educated to degree level in Archaeology or a closely related field. They must ideally have a minimum of six months fieldwork experience in a professional commercial archaeological organisation. Salary levels will be determined by demonstrable fieldwork experience and skills.

Successful applicants will also ideally have one or more of the following: a clean UK/EU Driving Licence, CSCS card or Membership of CIfA.
A First Aid at Work or other relevant H&S qualification (eg: documented Manual Handling training, Pipe & Cable Detection training, Asbestos Awareness etc) would be an added advantage.

Please include information regarding projects you have worked on and particularly fieldwork skills such as field walking surveys, machine watching and urban excavation experience.

Applicants with interests/skills in period specialisms, artefacts, environmental archaeology, illustration and survey should highlight these skills. Opportunities may exist to develop these skills with appropriate training provided.

Archaeology/Classical Archaeology graduates with none or limited commercial fieldwork experience may be considered for a limited number of trainee placements. Please ensure that you state your interest in a trainee placement in your cover letter. (BAJR Approved)
