SUMO Geophysics: Archaeology and Engineering (incorporating GSB Prospection Ltd and Stratascan Ltd) is the largest and most experienced group of archaeological geophysicists in the UK, with over 50 years of combined experience. We are looking to further expand our teams in the Midlands (at Upton upon Severn) and in the North (at Bradford) and invite candidates with varying levels of experience to join this multi-disciplined Group. In addition to Archaeological and Engineering Geophysics, SUMO also specialises in Utility Detection, Topographic Surveys, Measured Building Surveys, Laser Scanning and Aerial Surveys (in conjunction with Aerial Cam).

We are looking for 3 experienced operators (permanent posts) and 3 trainees (initial 3-month contract leading to possible permanent posts).
Start date: ASAP (hence early applications welcomed)  

Trainee : £17,600 - £19500
Experienced Geophysicist : £19000   -   £24,000

Qualifications Preferred: Degree in Archaeology, Archaeological Sciences or related subject.
An MSc in Archaeological Prospection, or similar, would be advantageous for the Experienced positions. Full training given.
CIfA membership welcomed, as are holders of CSCS cards.

Role: Carrying our geophysical surveys primarily using Bartington and Geoscan instruments, plus Trimble GPS survey equipment.
Occasional utility detection work / building and topographic surveys etc.

The trainee posts are full time field positions; the experienced posts are also field based, but suitable candidates will become involved in data processing, interpretation and report writing. All posts require a willingness to work outdoors in all weathers, in small teams staying away from home throughout the UK.
Applicants need to be able to undertake these duties.

4 posts are based at Upton and 2 posts at Bradford; please state preferred location if given an option.

Accommodation (hotel/B&B/pub) and subsistence provided when working away from base.
Permanent posts will qualify for Pension Enrolment and 33 days paid holiday (inclusive of Public Holidays).
Full PPE provided.

Full driving licence required for ALL posts.
