Oxford Archaeology is one of the largest independent archaeological practices in Europe. Our size and reputation ensures that we work on the most exciting and varied range of projects, and can offer real opportunities for long term employment and career development.

We are looking for skilled, experienced and enthusiastic archaeologists. Although it can be advantageous to be based within reach of one of our three regional offices (in Cambridge, Lancaster and Oxford), we have opportunities on projects throughout the country and are therefore interested in applications from people anywhere in England and Wales. Our field teams are now likely to be busy until Christmas and beyond.

OA East
We have several projects in the vicinity of Cambridge and other work on the Essex-Herts border and in Norfolk and Suffolk investigating later prehistoric landscapes, Romano-British settlement and industry and rural Saxon and medieval sites. We are looking for staff based in each of these areas, although we also have some spaces for 'away work' in East Anglia.

OA North
We are about to commence a large-scale excavation of a late Iron Age/Romano-British site near Bridlington, and have a strong programme for excavations we expect to start in the near future in the North West. As a result, are looking to recruit several additional experienced field staff for predominantly away-based fieldwork.

OA South
We currently have a busy work programme with a large number of projects both in the Oxfordshire area and further afield. Current larger projects include investigations of multi-phase occupation on the outskirts of Wallingford, extensive evaluation of the Oxford floodplain, Late Iron Age - Roman excavations in Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire, a significant Roman occupation and industrial complex near Hemel Hempstead and evaluation of WW1 defences in Kent.

OA are also working on the Central section of HS2 Phase 1 (as part of the COPA JV), and anticipate very significant workload - and therefore good opportunities for new staff - throughout 2018 and beyond.

We operate a policy of single rooms for all away-based staff.

Successful candidates will normally be offered a 12 week contract (37.5 hours per week) after which permanent contracts will be offered, dependent upon sufficient work being available and candidates demonstrating satisfactory performance and competence for the role.
