Always been fascinated by discoveries and archaeology? Here is your opportunity to bring your commercial and operational experience to one of the UK’s largest and most successful archaeological organisations.

Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA) (www.mola.org.uk) is an independent limited company and educational charity. We are a world leader in deep and complex urban archaeology, and our core business is founded on providing archaeological and heritage services to the property and infrastructure construction sectors. Through this work, we also fulfil our charitable purpose by creating new knowledge and public benefit – through education, public engagement, citizen science and academic research. A sound and sustainable business with an annual turnover of £14 million and 300 professional staff in London, Northampton and Basingstoke, MOLA has capacity for considerable growth in coming years.

We now seek an enthusiastic Chief Operating Officer, experienced in driving excellence and innovation in operations, commercial management and strategic pursuits, to play a key role in realising our ambitions for sustainable business growth and deepening our social impact. Reporting to the CEO and as a member of MOLA’s Executive Leadership team, this is an excellent opportunity to take a group-wide leadership role and to craft and implement an approach to business purpose and operational excellence that is focussed on achieving MOLA’s next phase of development, in the context of a challenging external commercial environment across a range of clients and markets.

With at least ten years of professional experience, ideally gained in the infrastructure, construction or commercial archaeology sectors, successful candidates will have successfully led the delivery of multidisciplinary projects, programmes or organisational initiatives of significant size or impact. You will be highly numerate, have a keen attention to detail and commitment to innovation, excellent and adaptable influencing skills, and an outstanding ability to balance and drive agreed strategic initiatives and day-to-day requirements. You will have a working familiarity with P&L or company accounts and you will understand the drivers of company profitability and cost management. You will also bring a keen understanding of the balance between organisational commercial viability and public purpose, and a tangible passion for the mission and aims of MOLA.

Location: London.
Salary: Competitive.
