PROJECT OFFICER (GEOPHYSICS)
SUPERVISOR (GEOPHYSICS)
SURVEYORS

Due to an unprecedented demand for our services and an upsurge in large infrastructure and housing projects we are looking to expand our geophysical surveying capacity with opportunities at all levels. This is a great opportunity to join a progressive and growing company engaged with a constant stream of exciting archaeological projects many of which lead on from geophysical surveys.

Since the Leeds office was set up nearly 2 years ago we have developed our own unique surveying system and have surveyed more than 4000 hectares across all parts of the United Kingdom including numerous surveys in excess of 100 hectares. To join our teams you will need to be physically fit and be prepared to work in all weathers on various ground conditions. We work nationwide so working away from the office will be the norm. The ideal candidates for the two senior roles should be able to demonstrate experience (of undertaking geophysical surveys) and enthusiasm and a willingness to participate in company initiatives and core values. You will be able to self-motivate, think on your feet and problem solve and be able to clearly communicate your instructions to other members of your team.  Enthusiam and a willingness to learn are the key requisites for the surveyor position.
Training will be given for all three posts as necessary. There will also be periodic opportunities to gain other archaeological skills.

As a completely independent commercial company there is plenty of scope to utilise existing skills, discover new ones and develop strengths you perhaps didn’t realise you even had. You will encounter numerous opportunities for personal development and promotion.
The successful candidates should expect to receive from Headland:

  • Continuous support from a proactive management team
  • Training in specific geophysical techniques and processing as well as archaeological and other skills
  • Periodic additional payments by way of company bonus scheme
Other benefits include:
  • A monthly clothing allowance
  • Contribution to pension scheme
  • Subscription to the CIFA
  • Paid subsistence and travel time on field projects
The team you will join
The North Office in Leeds was opened in 2015 and is the latest addition to the Headland rosta. Currently we have a full time core of 14 staff, including the specialist geophysics teams, based in a Grade 2 listed Victorian School in Beeston, about 1 mile from Leeds city centre although we are looking to move to bigger premises in the near future.

Its not all about work
Although Leeds is a large conurbation, with great road, rail and air connections, it is also within easy distance of great walking country. Skipton (Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales) is about an hour by car or train and the moors above Haworth (Bronte Country) or Ilkley less than that. Leeds is also a large vibrant city with a large student population and variety of cultural, sporting and leisure activities close at hand.  With a large student population there is a large stock of rented accommodation in Leeds to suit all budgets. Bradford also has a large student population and prices (both for renting or buying) tend to be cheaper here than Leeds.

There are many other benefits to working with Headland such as support in joining CIfA and paying membership dues, an annual bonus scheme and a good company pension plan - see http://www.headlandarchaeology.com/careers/why-join-headland/.
Applicants must hold a full clean driving licence (and be permitted to drive manual vehicles) and be eligible to work and drive in the United Kingdom. Membership of the CIfA is preferred but is not essential.

Informal inquiries concerning the roles can be made to Alistair Webb, Regional Manager, North – 0113 3876430.
