We are recruiting project managers to join Headland’s S&E office based in the historic setting of Wrest Park, Silsoe (between Luton and Bedford). The position will involve preparation of tenders and the running of both field and office-based projects. You will be expected to use your archaeological experience to advise clients and to support colleagues as projects progress. The sort of person we’d like to employ would need:
The team you will join - The team at Silsoe comprises 25 core staff with many presently working on the massive A14 Improvement Scheme in Cambridgshire (along with 70+ fixed term staff). We are also working on the HS2 project and you will be involved in this alongside a range of other mitigation and evaluation works. You will have opportunities to visit and interact with staff in the other offices in Leeds, Hereford and Ediniburgh, all of whom share the same passion for archaeology. It is a passion enabled by using the same systems and procedures that meet and, in many instances, exceed the boundaries of industry standards. The company is very focussed on training so not only can you expect to receive training but our managers are encouraged to get involved with the development of junior staff. This year we have appointed of a full-time training officer to facilitate this process and are running a newly developed training package for all staff.
- a desire to learn, develop and lead, underpinned by a good knowledge of British Archaeology and UK planning legislation;
- a proven track record in commercial archaeology;
- the ability to manage and develop field and specialist teams and taking projects through to publication;
- an appetite for working closely with clients

Location - Silsoe itself is well situated and a short commute from towns like Bedford, Luton, Hitchin, Letchworth, Cambridge and Milton Keynes. The nearest stations are Flitwick and Arlesey which will get you into Central London in 45 mins or onto East Coast Rail line.
