Experienced / trainee geophysicist

Due to an increasing workload Phase Site Investigations Ltd is looking to add experienced archaeological geophysicists and / or trainees to our survey teams.  We have one permanent post and a second vacancy that will be for an initial 3 month contract (which will hopefully become a permanent role at the end of the initial contract).

We are a market leader in high resolution cart-based magnetic surveys for the archaeological sector and we want to add to our geophysics team to help us meet the growing demand for our services. We believe in collecting high quality data and producing informed interpretations. We are committed to training and continual mentoring of our staff to ensure that they are able to collect, process and interpret the highest quality data possible.

For the experienced position we would be looking for someone with at least 6 months commercial experience of archaeological geophysics but for the trainee role all we require is someone who is hardworking and willing to learn as full training will be provided.

The positions will involve significant site work but as your experience grows there will also be an office element involving processing data and assisting with drawing work.  We are looking for individuals who are keen to learn and take on added responsibility as their experience grows.  Training will be given in all aspects of field work, processing and interpretation as required.

We work in a variety of sectors, from archaeology to engineering geophysics and utility tracing, utilising a range of different geophysical techniques including ground penetrating radar, magnetics, electromagnetics and resistivity imaging.  The roles will initially primarily involve archaeological surveys but you may also be required to assist in the other types of survey work that we undertake so there will be variety in your workload.
We are based near Darlington but undertake surveys across the UK and so a driving licence and the flexibility to work away from home are crucial.

A willingness to carry out physically demanding work in often challenging conditions is vital.

The successful candidate must be motivated, enthusiastic, enjoy working outdoors and have the ability to work to tight deadlines.

The trainee starting salary will be £16,500 per annum.

The starting salary for experienced staff will range from £18,500 to £22,000 depending on experience.

Details on the range of work that we carry out can be found on our website.

If you are interested in joining us then please send a CV and covering letter by email.

Travel time for surveys to and from our offices will form part of your normal working hours
Expenses and accommodation are paid / provided when surveys require overnight stays away from the office.

We may hold a fist round of interviews early in the New Year so if a position is of interest then apply early!
