Phoenix Consulting Archaeology Ltd are an established practice now in their 21st year of operation. We work throughout the UK providing advice and services to the minerals and construction industry. We are a small, but successful company with an excellent and established client base.
We currently have two exciting opportunities for a Fieldwork Project Manager and also a Post-excavation Report Writer.
The Fieldwork Project Manager:
Principally to manage on-site excavations and facilitate other fieldwork projects, supported by the senior management team. We are looking for a motivated and hard-working individual who has an interest in developing their current skill-base.
The successful candidate should have an excellent knowledge of British Archaeology and a background in commercial archaeological fieldwork. They should have demonstrable management skills in running medium-sized fieldwork projects. This should be in excess of twelve months in a similar position.
They should also have experience of writing up their fieldwork projects to publishable standards, project management and a good understanding of current health and safety legislation. CIfA membership at Member grade, or potential to obtain such, is desirable. The successful candidate should possess, or be willing to obtain a Quarry Safety Passport/CSCS card (which will be paid for by the Company).
It is likely other duties would be required, including working alongside our post-excavation manager to facilitate in the preparation of post-excavation reports, and assisting the senior management team in general consultancy duties.
The post would be based at our Bedford office, but likely include periods of site-based location. Where applicable, accommodation and expenses will be covered by the company. Travel to a variety of sites would be required (for which a mileage allowance is paid) and therefore a current driving licence is needed.
Post-Excavation Report Writer
We are looking for an experienced individual who has a proven track record in the writing up to publishable standards of archaeological field excavations.
You should have exceptional skills in the assessment, analysis and synthesis of archaeological site data, leading to the preparation in a timely fashion of succinct, informative and intelligible reporting. This should be evidenced by self-authored reports and/or a publication record. An understanding of British archaeology is essential, whilst additional knowledge of a particular period would be advantageous.
The post would be based at our Bedford office, but we are flexible with regard to home-based and even part-time working if the right individual presented themselves.
We provide a competitive package including a good base salary, pension contributions and opportunity for bonuses. 28 days holiday and concessionary days at Christmas. We also pay full CIFA and other subscription fees.
19th March 2018.
Late March early April 2018 at our offices in Bedford.
