SUMO Geophysics: Archaeology and Engineering (incorporating GSB Prospection Ltd and Stratascan Ltd) is the largest and most experienced group of archaeological geophysicists in the UK, with over 50 years of operating in commercial geophysics. We are looking to further expand our team in the Midlands (Upton upon Severn) and Yorkshire (Thornton, near Bradford) and invite candidates with varying levels of experience to join this multi-disciplined Group. In addition to Archaeological and Engineering Geophysics, SUMO also specialises in Utility Detection, Topographic Surveys, Measured Building Surveys, Laser Scanning and Aerial Surveys (in conjunction with Aerial Cam).

We are looking for trainee / experienced operatives - 3-4 posts are available.

Start date: ASAP (hence early applications welcomed) Previous applicants should not re-apply.

Qualifications Preferred: Degree in Archaeology, Archaeological Sciences or related subject. An MSc in Archaeological Prospection, or similar, would be advantageous. Full training given. CIfA membership welcomed, as are holders of CSCS cards.

Role: Carrying our geophysical surveys primarily using Bartington and Geoscan instruments, plus Trimble GPS survey equipment. Occasional utility detection work / building and topographic surveys etc.

The trainee posts are full time field positions initially but eventually leading to involvement in data processing, interpretation and report writing. The posts require a willingness to work outdoors in all weathers, in small teams staying away from home throughout the UK. Applicants need to be physically fit to be able to undertake these duties.
