Role Overview
Due to our continuing success working on major development projects across the country we are looking to recruit an Assistant Consultant/ Consultant to join our Historic Environment team. We are particularly seeking a new recruit to be based in our Reading or London office, but would consider suitable candidates for Shrewsbury, Newcastle or Leamington.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established, diverse and successful team, making a significant contribution to our continued success and to contribute to a wide range of high-profile projects across Wood’s business. Building on a strong academic background, you will be responsible for providing support to the Historic Environment team in terms of delivering environmental consultancy services to a full range of UK-based and International clients.

Key Responsibilities
The post holder will be required to undertake site visits and walkover surveys, as well as visiting client premises and Wood’s other offices. The role will involve away working and a full driving licence will be required.
 
The role will include production of desk based assessments, monitoring site investigation works, preparation of specifications for archaeological fieldwork, monitoring subcontractors and supporting the delivery of Historic Environment EIA chapters.
 
Skills/ Qualifications
Educated to degree level in Archaeology or a related discipline, you will have a sound background in British archaeology and a thorough knowledge of heritage conservation policy, preferably with two years’ commercial experience. Experience of working with historic buildings is desirable, as is membership of a relevant professional organisation.
 
An ability to communicate clearly both verbally and through written work is essential. IT skills and knowledge of GIS systems will be advantageous. At Assistant Consultant level you should expect to undertake desk-based research and monitor fieldwork projects as well as a desire to develop your skills in environmental consultancy. As a Consultant you should have the desire to progress to eventually fulfil a project management role.
