Salary: £26,780–£29,355
Location: Barnard Castle, Co. Durham
Appointment: Permanent

Northern Archaeological Associates is the leading independent heritage and archaeology consultancy in the north of England and has a broad range of current excavation, survey, geomatic, historic environment, and community projects.

NAA is currently seeking suitably qualified enthusiastic Fieldwork Managers to coordinate a range of fieldwork projects in the North East of England, Yorkshire, and Cumbria. We welcome applications from experienced and motivated field archaeologists whose interest and expertise lies in delivering the highest standards of archaeological work to meet the needs of clients and archaeological curators. The successful applicants will be flexible, capable of maintaining a busy workload, and able to work within our multi-disciplinary teams.

The Fieldwork Managers will report to and work closely with NAA’s Project Management team in the design, management and delivery of all types of archaeological fieldwork. The post holders will take oversight of the achievement of a range of concurrent projects led by Project Officers. These responsibilities will involve preparation of project documentation, mobilisation and oversight of fieldwork, post-excavation assessment/analysis and reporting, and managing others acting under their direction. The Fieldwork Managers will liaise and build strong relationships with local authority archaeologists and clients, whilst promoting NAA’s services.

The post holders will have demonstrable skills and experience in managing archaeological field projects of different types and complexity. Knowledge of project management procedures, of health and safety in the workplace, and of relevant legislation, policy and best practice will be required. The post holders will need to be effective communicators in managing, monitoring and mentoring site staff and in liaising with clients and other stakeholders. The Fieldwork Managers will be able to motivate and develop their teams and bring positive improvements to the overall effectiveness of NAA field operations and timely reporting.

The advertised posts will be based at the NAA offices in Barnard Castle and are for permanent appointments based on a 37.5-hour working week. Starting salary will be commensurate with the expertise and experience of the successful candidates and payment will be made monthly in arrears.
