Colchester Archaeological Trust is seeking to recruit a ceramics specialist on permanent contract to join our finds team and prepare pottery reports and to assist with other areas of our post-excavation work.
Colchester is well known for its assemblages of Late Iron Age and Roman pottery. This is an exciting opportunity for a ceramics specialist to work on material of national importance. A specialism in Late Iron Age and Roman pottery would be a clear advantage, although the successful applicant will be required to work on diverse assemblages of pottery from multiple periods and will be provided with training if necessary. Experience would be preferable but consideration will also be given to less experienced candidates who have the appropriate qualifications and demonstrate a willingness to acquire new knowledge.
The successful applicant will be required to produce catalogues and reports for both grey literature and publication. As part of a larger finds team the applicant needs to be able to work with others to assist in the completion of archaeological projects within budget and to a high professional standard. One aspect of the position will be liaise with volunteers involved with finds processing, so an outgoing personality would be advantageous.
The successful candidate would work closely with the Director of Archaeology, Project Officers and other finds specialists but would need to demonstrate an ability to work independently on multiple projects.
This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the country’s oldest commercial units.
The post would be full time for 37.5 hours a week and is available for an immediate start.
