Salary £20,333 - £24,233 per annum
Wessex Archaeology are seeking candidates experienced in a diverse range of survey techniques to join their Geomatics department. The successful candidate will work on a diverse range of projects, leading surveys and providing support to other teams within the company. Wessex Archaeology is one of the largest independent archaeological practices in the UK and is a registered charity whose aims are to promote the advancement of education, the arts, culture, heritage and science. We have offices in Salisbury, Sheffield, Maidstone, Bristol, Edinburgh and Welshpool. The position will be based in our Bristol office, but will involve travel to other offices and sites as necessary.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced surveyor to undertake projects from, and support our Bristol office. This will involve utilising a range of survey technologies on survey and archaeological projects, including, but not limited to, GNSS, TST, laser scanning and photogrammetry. This post will also be responsible for survey support within the Bristol office, providing training and technical support for the fieldwork team, and managing survey equipment and data. The ideal candidate will be able to manage competing demands on time, ensure compliance with procedures and have a desire to produce high quality work to meet our client’s needs.
As a supervisory role the successful candidate will be expected to lead small teams and provide support to more senior members of the Geomatics department in a range of field and office based tasks.
This post would be initially for a 12-month term, with possible extension/permanent contract to follow.

- Proficient in a range of surveying techniques and the production of deliverables
- Proficient in the use of CAD
- Experienced in leading small teams
- A confident communicator with a high standard of written English and experience of report writing
- A driven individual, able to work independently where necessary
- In possession of a full UK Driving Licence
- Experience of training others
- Experience of using Leica and Faro equipment
- Good photographic skills
- Experience of using GIS
- Membership of an appropriate professional body
