Assistant Archaeological Geophysicist – Fixed Term 3 month contract, with potential to lead into permanent position
£19,000 - £21,000 per annum

Magnitude Surveys Ltd is a social enterprise and an independent provider of archaeological geophysics to the commercial, research and public outreach sectors. Over the past three years Magnitude has expanded to 17 members of staff to become one of the largest specialist archaeological geophysics contractors in the country, attaining registered organisation status of CIfA in early 2018. We excel in tailoring geophysical surveys to meet both the client and project’s specific requirements. To meet these requirements, we design and manufacture our own cutting-edge geophysical systems and software in house. Magnitude currently fields three full-time mag teams and one ad-hoc community or specialised survey team. Based between Bradford & Leeds, we are ideally situated for access to motorway, rail and air travel.

The Position
Magnitude Surveys is seeking to promptly recruit an archaeological geophysicist to help the company meet increasing workloads. Magnitude Surveys is seeking a driven, self-motivated individual who is looking to expand their technical skills and creative abilities in an expanding company. The position will entail mostly field-based responsibilities with a mix of office-based training. These could include:

  • Field survey.
  • Community survey.
  • Training in data analysis and interpretation.
The ideal candidate would possess the following:
  • Full clean driving licence including experience driving off road
  • The ability to work as part of a close-knit team
  • Degree in archaeological near surface geophysics or similar
Although the above qualifications are preferred, we encourage anyone with a keen interest in archaeological geophysics to apply. Full training will be given to the right candidate.

Benefits
Travel to site, accommodation and subsistence is paid for while away from the office. Full PPE will be provided, including Gore-Tex or equivalent waterproofs and safety boots.

CIfA membership and a current CSCS card are desirable, but not essential. Magnitude Surveys will support the successful candidate in obtaining both CIfA membership and a CSCS card if they do not have one. Magnitude Surveys encourages and supports its staff’s professional development by funding conference attendance and presentation, as well as training workshops. In house training is logged following CIfA’s CPD training matrix. The opportunity for career progression to field supervisor and on then to more office-based roles is available for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will be automatically enrolled into the NEST workplace pension scheme with matched employer contributions of up to 6%. Magnitude Surveys offers 28 days holiday including bank holidays, in addition to the company shutdown between Christmas and New Year. A childcare voucher scheme is in operation.

Application Process
The closing date for application is August 31st; however, early application is advised as the post may be filled before closing date.
Applicants should submit a covering letter and CV through our website. Interviews will be held in our Bradford office.
