SUMO Geophysics: Archaeology and Engineering is the largest and most experienced group of archaeological geophysicists in the UK, with over 50 years of combined experience. We are looking to further expand our teams in the Midlands (at Upton upon Severn) and in the North (at Bradford) and invite candidates with varying levels of experience to join this multi-disciplined Group. In addition to Archaeological and Engineering Geophysics, SUMO also specialises in Utility Detection, Topographic Surveys, Measured Building Surveys, Laser Scanning and Aerial Surveys (in conjunction with Aerial Cam).
We are looking for experienced operators and trainees
Start date: ASAP (hence early applications welcomed) 17th August - early applications are encouraged and post may be filled before this date
Qualifications Preferred: Degree in Archaeology, Archaeological Sciences or related subject. An MSc in Archaeological Prospection, or similar, would be advantageous for the Experienced positions. Full training given. CIfA membership welcomed, as are holders of CSCS cards.
Role: Carrying our geophysical surveys primarily using Bartington and Geoscan instruments, plus Trimble GPS survey equipment. Occasional utility detection work / building and topographic surveys etc.
These are field positions, though for the experienced posts suitable candidates will become involved in data processing, interpretation and report writing. All posts require a willingness to work outdoors in all weathers, in small teams staying away from home throughout the UK. Applicants need to be physically fit to be able to undertake these duties. The posts will be based at Bradford or Upton; please state your preferred location if you were given an option.
Accommodation (hotel/B&B/pub) and subsistence provided when working away from base. After the appropriate qualifying period you will be eligible for Pension Enrolment; everyone gets 33 days paid holiday (inclusive of Public Holidays). Full PPE provided.
Full driving licence required for ALL posts.
