Due to continued growth in our portfolio across England, CFA is looking to appoint a project manager to join our friendly and highly professional team based in one of our Northern England offices. This is an exciting opportunity for an established manager with proven experience to procure and deliver a range of projects. You will be an effective manager of staff, adept at supporting and encouraging colleagues through their own professional development and career progression. You should have a driving licence, MCIfA and a commitment to quality. There is the opportunity for the successful candidate be based at either our Leeds, Sheffield or Manchester office.
You will have excellent communication and team-working skills and will maintain good relations with colleagues, clients and their agents, specialists and sub-contractors, and curatorial authorities.
You will have a thorough knowledge and understanding of archaeological practice; particularly British archaeology and the principles and processes relevant to archaeological investigations.
You are successful at procuring, managing and completing project work; from inception to completion, you will provide oversight ensuring delivery within deadlines and budgets ensuring the highest standards of quality and health and safety.
You have well-developed analytical and report writing skills, ensuring primary and interpretative data are presented accurately and appropriately.
You have a pro-active and thoughtful attitude to allocating resources, you provide positive and constructive feedback and also have the ability to deal effectively with poor performance when appropriate.
You are able to motivate staff and pass on your expertise and confidence to less experienced staff, enthusing colleagues, the general public and other professionals.
You will be adept at producing high quality quotations, tenders, project designs and other documents.
You are effective in liaising with other managers, administrators and staff from other offices, helping to coordinate project workload and resources.
You will work closely with post-excavation managers, project officers and supervisors in determining post-excavation requirements and the production of costed post-excavation design documents.
You will have the responsibility of ensuring that quality management systems are effectively implemented and that documents sent to clients and other stakeholders are checked and signed off.
Successful criteria include:
Relevant degree-level education
Proven management experience
Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) or suitable experience and willingness to become a member
A confident demeanour, a positive attitude and effective team-worker and communicator
Motivated and with good organisational and administrative skills
A full driving licence (essential)
