NORTHERN ARCHAEOLOGICAL ASSOCIATES
Northern Archaeological Associates is the leading independent heritage and archaeology consultancy in the north of England and has a broad range of excavation, geomatic, historic environment and community projects.
NAA is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced Publications Officer to support the publication programme associated with a variety of current and forthcoming archaeological projects. A key part of the role will be working on monographs for the exciting A1 Leeming to Barton motorway upgrade scheme, which includes nationally important Roman remains excavated at Catterick and Scotch Corner. The first monograph—Death, Burial and Identity—has been published and is available for download at https://doi.org/10.5284/1050910. The Company has a number of other large-scale excavations currently in post-excavation and a constant throughput of commercial client reports requiring editing work. These reports relate to all service areas of the business, providing an interesting and varied portfolio.
Reporting to and working closely with the Post-Excavation Manager, the post holder will produce manuscripts suitable for publication in regional and national journals and in the NAA monograph series, and edit content for grey literature and other client reports. Effective communication and collaborative working are key requirements of this role. The post holder will be required to liaise closely with colleagues and external contributors and will be accountable for delivering finished products to time, within budget and to appropriate professional standards. Applicants will therefore be flexible, capable of maintaining a busy and varied workload, and be able to work as an integral member of our multi-disciplinary teams.
We welcome applications from experienced and motivated candidates whose interest and expertise lies in delivering the highest standards of archaeological work. Candidates will ideally have a first degree in archaeology or related discipline, or in publishing, but must have a rounded understanding of British archaeology and experience of commercial archaeological practice.
The advertised post will be based at the NAA offices in Barnard Castle and is for permanent appointment based on a 37.5-hour working week. Starting salary will be commensurate with the expertise and experience of the successful candidate and payment will be made monthly in arrears.
