This is an opportunity to join the Cambridgeshire Historic Environment Team and assist with the management, protection and promotion of Cambridgeshire’s wide and varied archaeological resource. Cambridgeshire is one of the busiest areas in the country for archaeological fieldwork and development, and the HET operates a semi-commercial service supporting local planning authorities in the delivery of these challenges whilst at the same time protecting our rich and varied historic environment.
The primary responsibility of the role will be working on the Historic Environment Record and especially on our holdings of archaeological archives. This can include acting as point of contact, facilitating queries, processing enquiries and enhancing the dataset. Other work includes some outreach and processing countryside stewardship scheme applications. As the post holder will be expected to operate our archaeological archiving processes, previous knowledge or experience with post-excavation or archives will be helpful. The post holder will also, time permitting, have opportunities to get involved with other aspects of the team's work.
We are looking for individuals with a good understanding and experience of British archaeology, and practical experience in either HERs, or especially post-excavation and/or archaeological archiving. Further training will be provided. You must have a good level of computer literacy, ideally with knowledge and experience of GIS and/or databases. You must be able to work under your own initiative and pay close attention to detail.
This post would be of interest to someone that wishes to enhance their career as a curatorial archaeologist.
