AOC Archaeology is one of the leading heritage companies in the UK. We have one of Britain’s largest and most experienced teams of in-house artefact, ecofact and conservation specialists, and we are currently recruiting for a Post Excavation Supervisor to assist with the delivery of our post excavation programme in our York office.
The post is full time, although applications for part time working will also be considered. The role would be predominantly dedicated to post excavation duties (as outlined below); however, the successful candidate would also assist in other sectors, as required. In particular, the successful candidate would be required to assist in the production of excavation reports (watching briefs, evaluations and small-scale excavations). Previous experience of writing such reports would therefore be advantageous.
The role will include:
Assisting in the coordination of incoming and outgoing finds and soil samples; assisting in the implementation of management procedures; managing sample and finds storage, and the processing, quantification and packaging of finds; records management; transport of assemblages and samples between locations; liaising with internal and external finds specialists and conservators; liaising with Project Managers and fieldworkers; preparation of site archives and museum deposition; assisting in other sectors; producing excavation reports.
The successful candidate will have a willingness to take on varied duties in line with our post excavation and conservation programmes. The post is based in our York Office but there will be a requirement to travel to locations across the country and occasionally to stay away overnight. The successful candidate will work with York’s Operations Manager and Project Managers, and with key members of our Post Excavation and Conservation teams across the company.
Applicants should have a track record of working with artefacts, samples and fragile items and a demonstrable interest in post excavation. A methodical, well-organised and positive approach will be required. A full driving licence is essential and a licence for large vehicles would be beneficial. Previous experience of artefact photography, archaeological archiving and excavation report writing would be advantageous.
Applications are by CV and covering letter. Please send all applications to Stephen.Potten@aocarchaeology.com quoting reference YOPXPS1019.
