Geophysics Project Officer – Permanent Position (Subject to the successful completion of a 3 month probation period)



Job Description:
The Geophysics Project Officer will join anour existgrowing project team currently consisting of five other Project Officers and will be responsible for managing the lifecycle of a geophysical survey projects from commissioning, to reporting it has been commissioned. Jobs may range in size offrom less than a hectare, to in excess of 1000ha in size (although unusually large or complex projects will be worked with managed alongside a more experienced Project Lead). Typical duties will include:
  • Overseeing project set-up tasks such as liaising with clients, contacting landowners and arranging access and accommodation.
  • Managing field teams and ensuring fieldwork is undertaken to a high standard and within budget, as well providing updates to client.
  • QA-ingProviding Quality Assurance for geophysical survey reports to a high technical standard and written standards.
  • General office tasks such as, RAMS/WSI production, report writing, interpretation, but with a focus on data QA and training junior members of staff.
  • Limited fieldwork ad hoc, if required, for specialist projects. Fieldwork also encompasses community and research projects.
  • Input into the direction of new survey strategies and company trajectory.
Person and Skill Requirements:
  • Can QAapable of assessing the quality of magnetometer data for archaeological applications. Training will be given for other geophysical techniques, such as EM and GPR data QA as necessary. Experience in QA of other remote sensing and land surveying methods is desirable, but not essential.
  • Good, written English language skills are essential.
  • Effective time and task management, including understanding how smaller tasks feed into a wider project.
  • Since the nature of geophysical survey projects means we can work on sites for periods ranging from less than a day, to months at time, the ability to cope with the variability of projects of different scales, natures, and complexities is imperative.
  • CIfA membership and a current CSCS card are desirable, but not essential. Magnitude Surveys will support the successful candidate in obtaining both CIfA membership and a CSCS card if they do not have one. The ideal candidate would have an MSc in archaeological prospection or similar qualifications.
