Forestry England are seeking a part time Historic Environment Adviser to work with our delivery teams to protect and manage the historic environment across the Nation’s Forests.
The role is an exciting opportunity to work with England’s largest land manager, using your professional expertise to advise our operational teams as they deliver a wide range of programmes across East England Forest District.
This post is based in East England Forest District at the District Office in Santon Downham near Brandon, Suffolk. The District, with over 150 directly employed staff, covers an area of 35,000 ha from North Norfolk to Brighton; including Thetford Forest and the outlying beats of Sandlings, Kent, East Sussex, Chilterns and Thames Chase Community Forest.
The District has a varied landholding including the large pine forest at Thetford, community woodland on the outskirts of London and a range of mixed woodland, many of which are on sites of Ancient Woodland. There are numerous sites of conservation interest designated across the district, including SPA, SAC, SSSI, AONB, ASNW, CWS and Scheduled Monuments. The District offers outdoor recreation activities to hundreds of thousands of people each year at its recreation centres and the whole freehold estate is dedicated for public access on foot, with numerous small carparks and informal access points.
Forestry England is currently allowing employees to predominantly work from home to assist with social distancing protocols during the Covid-19 pandemic. The successful candidate may be required to attend the Santon Downham office on request, and if national social distancing guidelines are relaxed the frequency of office attendance may increase to full contracted hours. At such a time, flexible working requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis if home working is preferred by the individual.
The post holder will be responsible to the Planning & Environment Manager who will be the Reporting Officer, and the Head of Land Management will be the Confirming Officer. The post is part time; working 22.5 hours per week.
