AECOM is seeking a Senior and a Principal  Archaeologist to join our long-established heritage team comprising experts in both fieldwork design and management and technical delivery within the planning process. We are a friendly team that work closely together. You will be based in one of our southern offices but you will be expected to work on projects throughout the UK.

As a Senior or Principal  Archaeological Consultant, you will need to have good experience in both archaeological fieldwork and heritage consultancy.

Working with our clients, other Project Managers, and your colleagues in the AECOM Heritage Team, you will contribute to a range of multi-disciplinary projects across England and Wales.

You will provide expert advice to internal and external clients and deliver technical reporting including Initial Appraisals, DBA and EIA to programme and budget. Projects will range from small to medium size developments, particularly in the renewable energy sector, to large scale infrastructure applications and frameworks. You will be expected to design, commission and manage programmes of archaeological work. You will also prepare tenders/fee preparation for proposals, set budget's, and monitor project finances. You will need enthusiasm and an excellent attitude to client and stakeholder communication to create your own portfolio of projects. Job Responsibilities: 

The post will entail:
  • Preparing desk-based assessments and deposit models.
  • Preparing archaeological impact assessments. 
  • Archaeological fieldwork design, management and monitoring.
  • Consultation and liaison with stakeholders via telephone, Microsoft Teams and via on site meetings.
  • Working independently and taking responsibility for programmes of work, conducted safely, and producing high quality reports.
  • Liaising effectively with managers, consultants from other disciplines and other stakeholders as required.
Minimum Requirements :
To  be successful in this role we are looking for the following:
  • Client focused team player with a positive attitude and ability to work with diplomacy and collaborate effectively;
  • Professional, organised and thorough approach to work which demonstrates an attention to detail to get things right first time;
  • Ability to manage own time and comfortable working both within a team or alone to tight deadlines;
  • Detailed knowledge of UK heritage legislation and policy;
  • Detailed knowledge of UK archaeology across a range of periods and site types;
  • Experience in managing large-scale fieldwork projects;
  • Experience of undertaking archaeological assessment work;
  • Experience in costing and project management;
Preferred Qualifications :
  • A relevant first degree and/or post-graduate qualification in archaeology or a related subject;
  • Appropriate level of membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists.
