Location:       Sheffield (Other locations (Manchester / West Midlands) would be considered for the successful candidate)
Salary:            £36,000 - £40,000
Type:              Permanent, full time (37.5 hours per week)

About the role
 
We are recruiting for a Principal Historic Environment Consultant to manage our Heritage Team. This offers an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to develop and grow our Ecus Heritage team across the UK. The role is anticipated to be based in Sheffield, however other locations will be considered for the right candidate.
 
You will be a full member of a relevant heritage, or equivalent professional body, with a minimum of 8 years’ professional experience, ideally in a commercial consultancy environment. With an established track record and exceptional subject knowledge you will be looking for a new challenge in a growing company that will not only enable you to lead and develop your career, but also the team.
 
The successful candidate will be a key member of the Company’s Senior team, reporting directly to the regional manager and working with the Head of Profession.  Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 
  • Preparation and review of fee quotes and tenders in a timely manner.
  • Leading on a wide variety of heritage projects.
  • Line managing a small team of junior staff; providing a strong technical and mentoring lead.
  • To compose and contribute to various heritage reports (Heritage Statements, Setting Assessments, Desk based Assessments, EIA, Management Plans) and take responsibility for the successful management and high-quality delivery of your teams’ project work.
  • Maintaining and developing client relationships.
  • Working with the Head of Profession and Regional Managers to grow the business.
Essential Skills / Experience
  • Relevant degree – or have an interest/specialism (i.e. archaeology, historic environment, historic buildings, landscape archaeology)
  • Have an established heritage generalist or specialist skill area (built heritage, archaeology, landscapes) to support the business’ aims
  • Experience of managing staff and securing work in a consultancy environment
  • Experience of managing a wide variety of clients and historic environment projects
  • Membership of CIfA or IHBC, or equivalent professional body, at Member level.
  • Experience in assessing heritage significance and setting.
  • Authoritative knowledge of national legislation and planning policy in respect to heritage management
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • CSCS is desirable but training can be provided.
  • Full driving licence
On a personal level, we are looking for an enthusiastic and confident professional with good communication skills and the ability to fit into our friendly, lively and ambitious team. Training will be providing in respect of protected species licencing systems.
