Archaeology Scotland: Adopt-a-Monument Digital Officer - (Part Time)

Archaeology Scotland is a charity and a voluntary membership organisation that works to secure the archaeological heritage of Scotland for its people through education, promotion and support.
 
Background
The primary role of the Adopt-a-Monument Digital Officer will be to assist in the delivery of the Real Wild West: Adopt-a-Monument on Ardnamurchan Programme by supporting community groups in the planning and implementation of archaeology, conservation and interpretation projects on Ardnamurchan, on the west coast of Scotland.  
 
The programme is funded by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Natural and Cultural Heritage Fund, with match funding from Historic Environment Scotland.
                       
Essential Skills and Attributes: 
  • Demonstratable experience in delivering digital heritage projects
  • Experience of creating 3D models and other digital content of archaeological sites and objects
  • Experience of using digital techniques to record archaeological sites and objects
  • Experience of creating video/films and other digital content
  • Strong design skills
  • Experience of using social media for the promotion of activates, events and outputs
  • Degree in digital heritage, art, design, natural or cultural heritage or another closely related field
  • High degrees of self-motivation, enthusiasm and drive
  • A flexible and imaginative approach to work
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work to tight timetables
  • Ability to work positively in a small team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and bodies
  • ICT skills
 
Desirable Skills and Attributes: 
  • Good working knowledge of Scottish archaeological sites and monuments
  • Experience of working with community groups
  • Experience of teaching digital techniques to volunteers and members of community groups
  • Full, clean current driving license
 
Job Description
Working alongside the Adopt-a-Monument team the postholder will assist the Senior Project Officer in delivering the Real Wild West: Adopt-a-Monument on Ardnamurchan Programme. They will work with community groups to digitally record archaeological sites and monuments. They will be responsible for the design of programme outputs, including promotional material such as posters and flyers, publications, and other content. They will be responsible for the design and creation of digital content for websites, social media and promotion, including film/video. 
 
Duties to include:                     
  • Digitally record archaeological sites and objects (including producing 3D models)
  • Design project outputs
  • Create video and other digital content for websites and social media
  • Teach volunteers and community groups digital heritage techniques
  • Work alongside AaM team members to deliver archaeology, heritage and conservation projects
  • Assist Senior Project Officer in delivery of programme activity
 
Salary and working conditions: This post is 12 months part-time, equivalent to 2 days a week (15 hours) with a weekly schedule adjusted to the delivery timetable. The salary for this post will be based on £26,000 pro-rata per annum for the fixed term.  Holiday entitlement will be based on 25 days plus 10 statutory public holidays per year, pro-rata proportionate to employment status. There will be a certain amount of travel associated with the post, especially to Ardnamurchan, for which expenses, accommodation and travel are provided. There will be a considerable amount of weekend and out-of-hours working required for this post, with time off in lieu as required. Work hours will be adjusted to meet the programme delivery timetable, with reasonable consideration given to flexible working.

Place of Work: The post will be based primarily in Ardnamurchan on the west coast of Scotland or at Archaeology Scotland’s offices in Musselburgh but may require work with groups throughout Scotland.
