Our Archaeology and Heritage services team is based across 7 of Wardell Armstrong’s 13 offices; Bolton, Birmingham, Bury St Edmunds, Carlisle, London Stoke and Leeds. Our post-ex hubs in Carlisle and Bury St Edmunds are home to our purpose-built facilities, which provide finds analysis, palaeoenvironmental processing and analysis, post-excavation analysis, publication, and outreach. We are looking for a field archaeologist to support the delivery of our current and upcoming projects. Ideally, we seek archaeologists with 6 months of site experience in a commercial environment, but we will consider Graduates and applicants with equivalent alternative experience and or qualification.
You will work as part of a wider team, and you could be based on smaller sites, or on large scale infrastructure sites. The work will include working on evaluation, excavation, and geophysics. You should understand field recording systems, paper-based is essential but experience with digital recording systems is desirable.
For a flavour, here are some of our current projects, At Berwick we have an ongoing excavation of an exceptionally rich Iron Age or Roman stone-built settlement in a beautiful location beside the sea. At Dundee we have an ongoing excavation of prehistoric structural remains, and a possible Roman fort in a rich archaeological landscape surrounded by several scheduled monuments. In the Isle of Man we are currently excavating a prehistoric settlement site located in the south of the island. We also have upcoming work across the North and West Midlands of the country which includes smaller projects, everything from excavation of a print works to trial trenching for major road and infrastructure schemes.
The successful candidate should have:
- Practical experience on site
- A degree in archaeology (combined honours is acceptable) or equivalent experience.
- White CSCS card (either AQP or PQP)
- Driving license.
