Before you apply for a post, and sign any contract, read this CIfA and PROSPECT approved guide to applying for jobs. What questions to ask, what to expect and what to watch out for. BAJR Guide 54: Applying for a Job in Archaeology

AC archaeology is an established and well-respected medium-sized commercial archaeological contracting and consultancy organisation with offices near Salisbury and Exeter. We currently employ around 50 staff and carry out in excess of 300 projects a year, mainly located in Devon, Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset and Cornwall. We are currently looking to recruit Field Archaeologists and Trainee Field Archaeologists to work on a range of fieldwork projects from both our offices, including open-area excavations and trench evaluations, as well as a range of other archaeological projects across the area.

Field Archaeologists: £20,705 - £21,400
Applicants should have a minimum of six months experience in commercial archaeological fieldwork and be proficient in hand excavation and site recording. A relevant archaeological degree is highly desirable, as is membership of the CIfA and a full clean driving licence.

Applicants should possess a current CSCS Card and have good knowledge of British archaeology. For these posts, successful applicants will be offered a one year contract in the first instance, with a good possibility of permanent positions being offered and career progression dependent on ability and future workload.

Temporary shorter contracts are also available.

Trainee Field Archaeologists: £18,838
This is an opportunity to gain valuable archaeological site-based experience on a range of sites of all periods and types. Progression will be documented via the BAJR Archaeology Skills Passport and mentoring and assessment will be carried out by experienced AC archaeology staff.

After an initial six month contract, the expectation would be that you will be offered a Field Archaeologist position and be eligible to apply for membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists at PCIfA level.

What we can offer you
