Wardell Armstrong LLP is a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy with offices throughout the UK employing approx. 500 staff. Our Archaeology and Heritage services team is based across 6 of Wardell Armstrong’s 13 offices; Bolton, Birmingham, Bury St Edmunds, Carlisle, London and Stoke. The Opportunity:
The Bolton office comprises c. 65 multidisciplinary technical staff, including a highly skilled and successful team of Archaeologists. The team works closely with the wider business which employs approx. 90 archaeologists, making us one of the larger independent archaeological practices in the UK. The team are involved in the delivery of a diverse range of projects, from assisting developers discharge planning conditions to working on large, nationally significant infrastructure projects.
We are looking for a skilled, ambitious and strategic thinking Technical Director or Associate Director with strong leadership skills to assist the senior management team in the day to day management and leadership of the fieldwork team. This particular role primarily involves logistics and resourcing, client/planning archaeologist liaison and responding to enquiries. The successful candidate will be expected to have strong financial management skills including winning projects and preparing estimates and fee proposals. The successful candidate would be supported by the Regional Director, Service Directors and the wider business/Head Office support teams.
We are keen to hear from candidates who are proactive, highly skilled and experienced archaeologists with a proven ability to liaise with clients, agree contract work terms and manage a field team with a range of experience.
The role would suit ambitious candidates who are currently Senior Project Officers or experienced Project Managers.
  • A recognised/relevant degree;
  • Experienced in managing people and teams;
  • Strong communication and leadership qualities
  • Business development ability;
  • Robust commercial management skills;
  • Ideally an accredited Member of the Chartered Institute of Archaeologists (MCIFA).
