The York Archaeological Trust provides a unique employment opportunity, combining world famous heritage attractions, with excavation, survey, consultancy, expert conservation services, research and an unmatched commitment to dissemination and public engagement.

We are pleased to offer this exciting chance for an appropriately experienced individual to take a lead role in delivering the post-excavation programme in our York office. Celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2022, we are committed to building on the vision that led from the Coppergate excavation to the Jorvik Viking Centre, DIG, and the annual Viking Festival (https://www.jorvikvikingcentre.co.uk), with a resurgent pioneer spirit of innovation to deliver public benefits from archaeology and cultural heritage.

We are seeking a highly motivated, conscientious and experienced staff member with experience of core post-excavation tasks and processes. You will have the opportunity to work alongside a number of skilled archaeology and heritage professionals, who specialise in a wide range of archaeological post-excavation sub-disciplines including artefacts, ecofacts, environmental analysis, conservation, analysis and reporting. Applicants with a knowledge of or an interest in ceramics are encouraged, and further mentoring in this area can be provided.

There will also be potential opportunities to contribute more widely to the delivery of public benefit and positive social impacts through archaeology/heritage. This extends to exciting opportunities to contribute to new initiatives in public engagement, education, research and publication, via conventional and digital platforms, building on the achievements of our world-famous Jorvik Viking Centre.

If you feel you have relevant experience and skills, or untapped potential, and are ready for change and a role in a unique organisation, we would welcome your application.

What we offer:

A friendly working environment, and an opportunity to help deliver the vision and become part of a pioneering organisation, committed to pushing the boundaries of what archaeology and cultural heritage can offer in the UK and beyond.
