Wardell Armstrong LLP is a successful multi-disciplinary consultancy with offices throughout the UK employing approx. 500 staff. The role and the people we need to it
Our successful candidates will be experienced and highly motivated Field Archaeologists, ready to make the next step into team leadership. If you join us the work will mainly involve leading teams in the field to complete a range of investigations including evaluations, excavation and watching briefs. There will also be some office-based analysis and involvement in reporting.
We have an interesting portfolio of projects ranging from multi-period landscapes in quarries to large scale evaluations on linear infrastructure schemes. Most of our work is locally based but occasionally our clients need us to engage in away work. Should this be required an excellent subsistence package is offered, in addition to travel allowances and single occupancy accommodation. Our management team understand the benefit of having local archaeologists work on local sites, from both archaeological and environmental standpoints, and as such we endeavour to offer our staff work close to their home base wherever possible.
You will need to be able to demonstrate the following:
  • Experience in managing small teams
  • Experience in running projects and using your initiative
  • A people-centred approach to leadership
  • An ability to accurately supervise plant for archaeological operations
  • The right kind of organisational skills for archaeological projects
  • Experience of some report writing
  • The willingness to carry out manual work in tough outdoor site conditions and the ability to motivate others to do so
  • A clean driving license and the willingness to drive company vehicles (including with passengers)
  • A CSCS card (AQP or PQP)
  • A willingness to work away if required
Other desirable criteria include:
  • A degree in Archaeology or a complimentary discipline
  • CIfA membership (professional fees paid by WA)
  • SSSTS/SMSTS qualification
  • First Aid training
  • Experience with geophysical survey
