Northern Archaeological Associates is the leading independent heritage and archaeology consultancy in the north of England with a rapidly growing client base and a broad range of excavation, survey, geomatic, historic environment and community projects.

NAA is seeking to recruit a number of suitably qualified Experienced Project Officers at different levels to lead and support a range of current and forthcoming archaeological fieldwork projects in the North East of England, Yorkshire and Cumbria. We welcome applications from experienced and motivated field archaeologists whose interest and expertise lies in delivering the highest standards of archaeological work to meet the needs of clients and archaeological monitors. Mentoring and training is available to those seeking to progress their capabilities and careers.

The advertised posts are permanent appointments and will be based at the NAA office in Barnard Castle. Starting salary will be competitive and commensurate with the expertise and experience of the successful candidates. Due to the existing programme of work, selection of candidates will be ongoing, and prompt application is therefore encouraged.

Senior Project Officer (£24,205 - £26,265)
Candidates will be enthusiastic and motivated with significant demonstrable experience of directing a range of archaeological programmes in the UK commercial archaeology sector, and of successfully completing projects to time and to budget through to publication. The post holders will be required to support Project Managers in the preparation of tenders, WSIs, and site safety documentation, and to oversee more junior members of staff undertaking smaller excavations and evaluations.

Project Officers (£20,755 - £23,690)
Candidates will have demonstrable experience in undertaking watching briefs, trial-trench evaluations and smaller excavations. The post holders must demonstrate proven ability in post-excavation reporting and will be required to write client reports and to contribute to publication reports. Post holders will be supported by Senior Project Officers.

Candidates for all both posts must have a degree in archaeology or related discipline and a thorough understanding of British archaeology. Candidates must have a full driving licence and access to transport. A current CSCS card is essential. First Aid certification is advantageous, but training is available.
