Neo Environmental are an environmental consultancy currently operating throughout the UK and Ireland. Due to an increase in our workload we are seeking to appoint a field archaeologist for ongoing fieldwork in Northern Ireland (based from our Ballymena office). Sites will mainly include watching briefs and evaluations within County Antrim including working on your own.

Candidates will ideally have at least 6 months experience in commercial archaeology and be the holder of a current CSCS/CSR card.

Candidates should have a good working knowledge of archaeological recording techniques. A full driving licence, including own transport, is essential. The position is for an initial 3 month period with a view to progress to a permanent contract. Basic salary will be approximately £20,000 - £24,000 p/a, dependent on experience, and costs will be provided for accommodation and travel where required.

Job Description & Duties
• Conduct or assist in fieldwork duties (e.g. watching briefs, evaluations, excavations);
• Machine supervision;
• Identifying, excavating and recording archaeological features;
• Contributing to the compilation of site archives where appropriate;
• Drawing, describing and photographing archaeological features;
• Production of archaeological and heritage reports;
• Liaising with on-site contractors and representatives of public institutions.

Essential Criteria
• Degree in archaeology or related subject;
• Technically competent;
• Highly motivated with a strong attention to detail;
• Good organisational skills;
• Team player;
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal;
• Full driving licence and own transport; and
• Willingness to travel.

Desirable Criteria
• mimimum 6 months experience within commercial archaeology;
• Good knowledge of Irish archaeology;
• Holder of CSCS/CSR card;
• Good IT skills and technologically competent; and
• Membership of the IAI/CIfA.
