Archaeological Solutions is an independent commercial organisation based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.  We undertake a substantial range of projects throughout East Anglia. 

SALARY: TRAINEE £20,000 - £22,000
SALARY: PROJECT OFFICER £22,000 - £27,000
Annual increments are awarded to both the Trainee and Project Officer position, and mentoring is provided for each position 

The post holder will prepare reports comprising principally historic building recordings and impact assessments supplemented by archaeological desk-based assessments when necessary.  The reports will arise from diverse building projects predominantly within East Anglia, but occasionally further afield.  The role will entail the on-site examination and recording of buildings; their detailed description, interpretation and phasing; research and report writing.  Additionally, the role will include aspects of administration associated with co-ordinating historic building recording projects such as liaising with clients.

AS has had in-house historic building recording team for over 15 years and has recorded a vast range of buildings (residential, ecclesiastical, agricultural, industrial etc), and the resultant reports are of high calibre.  This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to develop their technical ability and skills while supported by a mentor and will have opportunities for relevant library and archive research.

The position will be based at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Key skills for the post are

  • Academic qualifications in buildings archaeology or equivalent relevant subject
  • Commercial historic building recording experience to Historic England Levels 1-4
  • Demonstrable experience of preparing a range of historic building reports
  • Experience in the research into historic buildings and/or other archaeological sites including archival research.
  • Current driving licence

  • CIfA membership
