Finds Liaison Officer 44379 CEHE
Gressenhall, East Dereham
£24,313 - £26,317 per annum
37 hours per week
Temporary contract until 31 July 2020

We are looking for a highly motivated person to join the Identification and Recording Service (I&RS) of Norfolk County Council's Historic Environment Service as Finds Liaison Officer (FLO) for the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS), a national organisation which records archaeological objects found by the public, advances archaeological knowledge and increases opportunities for active public engagement in archaeology.

The FLO works within a team of five (one half-time), embedded within the I&RS, producing c.15,000 records per annum, which are uploaded onto the PAS database and the Norfolk Historic Environment Record, one of the largest in the country.

You will hold a degree in archaeology or a related discipline or have considerable relevant experience.

A working knowledge of British archaeology and experience of recording finds is essential, and an understanding of the Treasure Act (1996) is highly desirable. Your communication skills, including public speaking and dealing personally with a wide range of individuals, will be highly developed. Excellent data-entry, report writing, and IT skills are essential, as is the ability to work flexibly and to tight deadlines.

Norfolk Historic Environment Service is responsible for safeguarding Norfolk’s archaeology and built environment, recording, conserving, interpreting and providing information and advice on the historic environment. For further information about the Historic Environment Service, visit www.norfolk.gov.uk/HistoricEnvironment.
For an informal discussion regarding this vacancy please contact Steven Ashley (Senior Finds Archaeologist) on 01362 869295.
