The Recruitment Team The Guildhall Alfred Gelder Street HULL HU1 2AA

Looking for the next stage in your career, leading the Humber Archaeology Partnership? A career involving the management of Historic Environment Records with varied archaeological landscape. From the iconic East Coast seaside and the rich prehistoric landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds, to medieval Hull, and industrial Goole. The archaeology and heritage of the East Riding of Yorkshire is currently transforming our understanding of Iron Age Britain. Explore this landscape alongside Hull, a city of ambition, a city that sparked the English Civil War, with rich surviving medieval remains.  As the Principal Archaeologist you will provide development management advice to two local authorities and lead the development of the Humber HER and its team. You will oversee the Hull Urban Archaeological Database project, funded by Historic England.  As the Principal Archaeologist for the Humber Archaeology Partnership, a partnership between Hull City Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council you will lead the team, guide development of the HER and continue to promote outreach and education to our residents.

About you

You will need to be educated to degree level in archaeology or closely related subject (e.g. Archaeology and History; Archaeology and Geography, or a comparable degree).  You will have experience of providing development management advice for complex and significant applications, providing an effective and efficient curatorial service and have experience of attracting funding for projects and developing HERs. You will report directly to the Head of Planning alongside a number of other planning and development teams. Experience of working in partnership with a variety of public and private sector agencies is key along with a proven track record of managing others, and projects.
