This is an exciting opportunity to join the Development Advice team in the North West as an Inspector of Ancient Monuments. We are looking for an individual who brings a creative approach and enthusiasm to the role, whilst looking to build positively on an existing foundation of experience. Through using this and applying our ethos of Constructive Conservation you will help to manage change to some of the most significant archaeology across this diverse region.

As our new Inspector of Ancient Monuments, you will deliver Historic England`s advice in response to pre-application and formal consultations across the diverse and fascinating North West Region, including the World Heritage Sites of Hadrian’s Wall and the Lake District.  The region’s archaeological sites range from Cumbrian stone circles to Cheshire moated sites, and a huge range of industrial monuments reflecting its pivotal role in the Industrial Revolution.  At its heart this post involves advising on scheduled monument consent applications, planning applications and management advice in relation to places of archaeological interest.

To be successful in this role, you will be used to taking on responsibility for an extensive and varied case load and working in close consultation with colleagues of various professional specialisms to achieve the overall regional and national objectives of the organisation. We strive to provide exemplary customer service to the wide range of people and organisations that we deal with, and you will need to be able to communicate appropriately and deliver a high level of expertise in an accessible manner whilst managing a challenging caseload.

As well as working in a supportive team environment that will enable you to further develop your career, we also offer a wide benefits package including a competitive pension scheme, a minimum of 28 days holiday, corporate discounts, and free entry to English Heritage sites. We recognise the importance of a healthy work-life balance. Therefore, we offer flexible working to allow you to build a pattern that works for you.

Interviews will take place on 13th November.
