Oxford Archaeology is one of the largest independent archaeological practices in Europe. Our size and reputation ensures that we work on the most exciting and varied range of projects, and can offer real opportunities for long term employment and career development.

At the 2016 CIfA Conference our Graduate Trainee programme was Highly Commended in the Archaeology Training Forum Awards. We have inducted over 150 trainees into the programme since early 2014, and many of them are still working for us, now as experienced excavators and supervisors.

OA East
OA East have a busy and exciting programme for 2021 and we have upcoming field projects on sites across the whole of the Eastern Region. We will be returning to continue investigations on a very rich Roman Villa landscape at Corby, Northamptonshire. We are running a number of large scale field projects in Essex, particularly around the Colchester area and we also have large scale fieldwork projects in the Sudbury and Chelmsford areas of Suffolk and Essex. We continue to have fieldwork projects in Norfolk and we will be returning to conduct further excavations on the Lincoln to Grantham pipeline, to excavate sites of Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman and Medieval date. Closer to our Cambridge base, we are to evaluating large sites in the east of Cambridgeshire and west of Suffolk and will be carrying out further excavations in the Cambourne and St Neots areas.

As you can see we are set to investigate archaeological sites of all periods, and types, and we are particularly interested in experienced candidates based in the Eastern Region.

OA South
OA South has a full and exciting work programme for the coming year with a range of both rural and urban sites covering a variety of different time periods. We have local projects in and around Oxfordshire and neighbouring counties, and for those who like to see different parts of the country we also have opportunities in Dorset and Gloucestershire and Essex in the pipeline. Highlights include Iron Age and Roman settlements and prehistoric landscapes and we are just about to start excavation of a significant Roman Cemetery. We also have exciting projects investigating the urban development of medieval oxford which will start in 2021.

Please note that we have stringent COVID-19 safety measures in place: All sites and offices have protocols for ensuring high levels of hygiene, strict social distancing rules are adhered to at all times including during travel to and from site, with extra welfare in place where needed.

Staff who successfully complete the scheme will, subject to the availability of work, be offered permanent contracts at Archaeologist level and will be enrolled on our new 'Archaeologist to Assistant Supervisor' training scheme, which provides a clear path for career development, once the required level of experience is reached.
