We have an exciting programme of work planned for 2021 and are therefore recruiting for people at all grades to join our Northampton and Basingstoke field teams. As one of the largest independent archaeological organisations in the UK, MOLA can offer a wide range of interesting, exciting and challenging projects, of all types and periods. Recent highlights of works from these offices have included a waterlogged Anglo-Saxon cemetery with preserved coffins, Neolithic burials, a causewayed enclosure, extensive Iron Age and Roman settlements and part of a medieval manorial complex.

Pay range: Starting from £27,470 to £29,469 (dependent on experience)
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Locations: Northampton or Basingstoke based, but travel to sites across the UK will be required
Duration: Permanent

We have a number of large and exciting projects across the South and East of England, the Midlands and beyond. Most projects are based within commuting distance of Northampton or Basingstoke, for which transport is provided from our offices, including paid time for drivers. For or projects further away, MOLA will provide high-quality accommodation and subsistence during the week, which we ensure are all fully COVID-compliant. Away work should be considered a normal part of this role.

Successful applicants for our Project Officer position should have significant experience superivising field projects in the UK, although relevant experience from other countries or significant non-commercial experience will also be considered. We are looking for people who have experience of report-writing at all levels, a thorough understanding of health and safety best practice, and excellent interpersonal skills. Ideally, applicants will have experience representing an organisation in various client interactions, as well as experience producing project designs and improving on processes. 

We are pleased to be able to offer a relocation incentive of up to £1000 (subject to eligibility) to help with the costs of moving closer to Northampton or Basingstoke. MOLA also pays for CIfA membership and application fees in full.

  • Degree in archaeology (or relevant subject) or substantial experience
  • Full, clean driving licence and willingness to drive company vehicles
  • CSCS card, or willingness and ability to acquire one
  • Significant experience supervising field projects and archaeological report-writing at all levels
  • In-depth understanding of health and safety best practice and of legislation relevant to archaeological practice
  • Demonstrable excellence in directing archaeological excavation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, and an ability to work well under pressure and to time and budget constraints
  • Desire to contribute to MOLA's commercial success and academic standing
  • An understanding and appreciation of diversity in the workplace
