Witham Archaeology is looking for an experienced and ambitious Senior Project Officer/Assistant Project Manager with a strong track record in commercial archaeological projects to join our friendly, supportive and highly professional team based in Lincolnshire. With projects across the East Midlands and a rapidly increasing workload, we are looking for a pro-active, enthusiastic and aspiring individual with the knowledge and vision to work closely with the director to contribute to the further expansion and development of the company. This post would suit someone who is keen to develop a career in project management.

The Role

You will work closely with and assist the director to:
  • Prepare tenders for a range of projects
  • Manage all aspects of fieldwork and post-excavation
  • Track and manage project finances
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders
  • Contribute to managing and developing the team
  • Contribute to the development of project management systems
  • Provide direct input into projects as required
  • Promote and market the company as appropriate

Skills, attributes and experience

A dedicated, analytical and creative professional, you will have:
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in British commercial Archaeology
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • A degree in a relevant subject although not essential for the right person
  • Strong teamworking skills
  • A highly developed understanding of Post-Excavation processes, substantial evidence of report writing experience, and demonstrable track record of producing accurate and detailed reports
  • Excellent organisational skills and an understanding/ awareness of relevant IT systems and programmes.
  • The ability to work under pressure.
  • A desire and ability to lead, develop and motivate others, identifying training needs where appropriate.
  • A professional manner and a drive to provide an excellent service, including professional advice to clients, in line with the vision and values of the company
  • Experience and understanding of UK commercial archaeology, the planning context and relevant legislation
  • Initiative and enterprise
  • A full clean UK driving licence
  • CSCS card preferred
  • CIFA membership (support will be given to achieve this if necessary)
