SUMO Geophysics Ltd (Archaeology and Engineering) is the most experienced group of archaeological geophysicists in the UK, we originally started operating in 1986. John Gater was involved with Time Team for 20 years and he plus SGL will be leading the geophysics when the programme makes its return this Autumn 2021.

We are looking to further expand our teams in the Midlands (Worcestershire) and invite candidates with varying levels of experience to join this multi-disciplined Group. In addition to Archaeological and Engineering Geophysics, SUMO also specialises in Utility Detection, Topographic Surveys, Measured Building Surveys, Laser Scanning and Aerial Surveys.

Start date: ASAP (appointments on a rolling basis - early applications welcomed)

Qualifications Preferred: Degree in Archaeology, Archaeological Sciences, Geophysics or related subject. An MSc in Archaeological Prospection or Geophysics would be advantageous for the experienced positions. Must be manual vehicle Licence holders.

Full training given. CIfA membership encouraged, CSCS cards – fees covered, ATV training where required

Role: Carrying out surveys primarily using magnetic and / or GPR cart / hand-held isystems, plus GPS survey equipment. Occasionally assisting with Engineering Surveys plus the opportunity to work with the most experienced Aerial (UAV) Team in archaeology.

These are primarily field positions in the first instance, though people with existing relevant skills will become involved with data processing, interpretation and report writing (esp in GPR) . All posts require a willingness to work outdoors in all weathers, in small teams staying away from home throughout the UK. We operate fully under H&S and COVID best practice. Full PPE provided

After the appropriate qualifying period you will be eligible for Pension Enrolment.
