Celebrating Consistency in Skills Training and Welcoming Metal Detecting as a new formal Skill

The BAJR Archaeology Skills Passport has long been recognised as an essential tool for aspiring and professional archaeologists alike. The latest edition maintains the structure of earlier passports, ensuring that nothing has changed in terms of core content or purpose. The only substantive addition is the inclusion of Metal Detecting as a tertiary Skill, reflecting the growing importance and interest in this practice within the archaeological community and the earlier launch of the new BAJR Guide-63_Metal_Detecting_in_Archaeology.pdf: Techniques and Strategies by Clive Hammett.

All links within the passport have also been checked and updated, ensuring users have access to the most current resources and information. It is worth noting that earlier versions of the passport remain fully compatible and relevant—this update simply acknowledges a new skill in the tertiary section ( three blank skill pages still remain to add your own if required ).

We would like to also express our heartfelt thanks to Crawford Print in Edinburgh, who have expertly produced the BAJR Archaeology Skills Passport for more than a decade. Amazingly, this independent printers have produced over 15,000 passports which over the years have been  distributed by Jana and Lu, supporting archaeologists across the UK and beyond.

In addition to the English language edition, the passport is also available in Welsh, and variants exist in German, Archäologischer Grabungs-Kompetenz-Pass  and the remarkable Australian Archaeology version, further broadening its global reach and impact.
