In 2024-2025, with support from Historic Environment Scotland, Make Your Mark and Access To Industry, a film has been made about the Scottish Stonemason’s Marks Project.
Focussing on work to engage with community organisations, it explains the learning and health benefits that can be gained from engaging with heritage projects.
The Scottish Stonemasons Marks Project investigates and records masons’ marks on medieval castles and churches of Scotland. Initially focusing on buildings begun between 1100 and 1300, They are systematically recording marks and looking at distribution patterns both within individual buildings, and across Scotland, to identify the size and mobility of this highly skilled workforce of stonemasons.
If you know of an organisation that would be interested in participating, send an email to info@masonsmarks.scot.
Access To Industry (A2I) works with unemployed people who face barriers to employment.
