Archaeological monitoring by AOC Archaeology Group during infrastructure works associated with the upgrading of the Talla Aqueduct at Blyth Bridge, Scottish Borders, identified a probable stone-lined bread oven relating to the occupation of the adjacent Roman temporary camps at Castlecraig.

A Possible Roman Bread Oven at Blyth Bridge, Scottish BordersCharred organic material recovered from the feature has been identified as the remains of a wattle-framed superstructure and has provided a first- to third-century AD date, contemporary with the postulated period of occupation of the Castlecraig camps.

This represents the first directly dated evidence of Roman activity relating to these sites and provides a valuable insight into day-to-day activities within and outwith the camps during their occupation.
